Teal Wicks will star as Emma in the forthcoming production of Jekyll & Hyde. The musical is planning to open on Broadway in the spring of 2013 following a 25-week national tour. In addition to Wicks, Jekyll & Hyde will feature previously announced stars Constantine Maroulis as Dr. Jekyll and Deborah Cox as Lucy. Directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun, the production will perform a pre-tour engagement September 7 through 30 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in La Mirada, California. The tour is slated to begin at San Diego’s Civic Theatre on October 2. No Broadway theater, dates or further casting have been announced.
Conceived for the stage by Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden with lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and music by Wildhorn, Jekyll & Hyde is the story of a London doctor who, in an attempt to cure his father’s mental illness, creates Mr. Hyde, an alternate personality that causes violence and destruction. The musical is based on the book The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. Jekyll & Hyde originally opened on Broadway on April 28, 1997 at the Plymouth Theatre, earning four Tony Award nominations.
Wicks is currently starring in Carousel at Goodspeed Opera House, with her final performance slated for August 5. She has appeared on Broadway in Wicked and off-Broadway in The Blue Flower. Wicks’ TV credits include The Good Wife.
